August 8 - Meeting Walter

Before taking a dog home, I knew Walter would want to meet him. I also valued his opinion as to the demeanor of the dog. So on Saturday, August 8, Walter met our future playmate. When we arrived at the shelter the cage was empty. I was a little concerned but thought that someone had him out walking. We noticed another dog in the cage next to "Eric's" but he appeared sad, depressed, and a little sick. Could that be "Eric"? Could a dog's personality change that much in one day? I called over an attendant and questioned him about our dog. He told me that "Eric" had a bad case of diarrhea and they retested him for Parvo which turned out negative. He did, however, have a virus and bad cough. He indeed was the pitiful little puppy in a strange cage. However, he came back to life when we placed him in is own cage and we climbed in with him. We were later told that he may not be able to have his surgery on Monday but we would be called as soon as the vet examined him.

Walter really liked "Eric" including his looks, demeanor, and size. He noticed, as I did, that we were about to get a lap dog, meaning that "Eric" thought he was a person and wanted to sit in a lap all the time. This, we knew, would have to change but it was so cute.

We decided to continue with the adoption and see what Monday brought. The next update will be how "Eric" became "Stevie."
